In the last post, we focused on the audience to the sermon on the mount. Today in the second verse in Matthew 5, we shift our focus to the Speaker. This is a relatively short verse. 

In this series looking at the sermon on the mount, we will take each verse in Matthew 5 - 7 and sit with it. We start in Matthew 5: 1 where there is a crowd of people gathered. 

The last post in the 'sermon on the mount' series talked about those that are poor in spirit are blessed. I alluded to who is considered to fall into the category of being poor in spirit, this week I want to dig into this further. 

Matthew 5: 3 - Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. There are many things to note in this verse. Many wonderful things. Firstly, is the word “blessed”. 

A couple months back, I shared some of my thoughts on what it means to be set apart in an Instagram post. I was fresh off a women's conference and was reminded "that holiness is not just a standard of moral purity, but it is to be set apart."
